Bellagio Heist - 1.5 Million in Chips Stolen

The bbc reports on the Bellagio Casino heist where a man on a motorcycle managed to get away with 1.5 million in chips. Since the chips are only good at Bellagio, it's not clear how the bandit plans to cash them in without detection.

The Gaming Commission insists that ALL casinos have TWO SETS of chips on hand so that business can continue and any major theft can be rendered futile. This keeps chips from being stolen in massive robberies and makes them only the target of minor pilferage. Or at least it is supposed to.

It seems one man paid 10K for one of those 25K chips, thus showing ordinary gamblers will indeed by steeply discounted stolen chips.
The thief's girlfriend had 16 chips.
